Between the Pages of This Year and Next
Spring has a funny way of making us feel like we’re living in two seasons at once. One foot is still planted in the rhythm of this school year—finishing up projects, documenting learning, and celebrating growth. The other foot? Already stepping into the possibilities of what next year could hold.
It’s the homeschooler’s version of straddling two worlds: reflecting on what worked, reimagining what could work better, and rediscovering what lights your child up inside.
You may be deep in end-of-year checklists and wondering whether your math curriculum still fits. You might be looking at extracurriculars, high school options, or simply dreaming of a slower pace. You are not behind, and you are not alone. This season of both wrapping up and gearing up is where so much beauty and intentionality is born.
One of the ways we support families during this reflective season is through our annual Curriculum Showcase—a spring tradition that brings dozens of vendors and Community Partners together under one roof. It’s a hands-on, face-to-face way to explore curriculum options, ask questions, and discover new ideas for the year ahead. Whether you’re new to homeschooling or just ready to shake things up a bit, the Showcase is designed to inspire and equip you.
So take a moment to notice how far you’ve come—not just your child’s growth, but your own. The choices, pivots, and quiet victories add up. They matter. And they shape the journey ahead.
Planning doesn’t have to mean pressure. It can be playful, thoughtful, and even fun.
You’re doing it. And you’re doing it well.
Kindly, Kara

RISE Spotlight – Science 8 with Mrs. Ericson
This week, I’ve been excited to introduce students to a new program called Tuva Labs, which we’ll be using throughout the rest of the school year. Tuva Labs helps students develop real-world data literacy skills by allowing them to explore and analyze real data sets. Students will begin learning how to interpret data and graphs, ask thoughtful questions, and draw conclusions based on evidence. Our first lesson will be an introductory lesson to allow students to play with data about roller coasters. It’s a great way to connect science to the world around us!
~Mrs. Ericson, Science 8
|
 |
More about Mrs. Ericson’s RISE class…
In RISE Science 8, students will dive into the world of physical science using interactive simulations and virtual tools that bring the concepts to life. The course focuses on understanding the science happening around us every day, from energy and motion to forces and matter. Through engaging online lessons and activities, students will explore how these principles are connected to their everyday experiences.
🌟 Stay tuned each week for more sneak peeks into the dynamic and collaborative learning experiences happening in our Middle School RISE classrooms.

Prom: A Night to Remember for Our Cottonwood Students
Prom was truly a magical evening—filled with fun, friendship, and unforgettable memories for our students and their guests. From the very start, the excitement was undeniable! DJ Magic Mel brought the energy with a student-curated playlist, and the dance floor was full within the first half hour. The enthusiasm and school spirit on display were incredible—even DJ Mel commented on how impressed he was by the crowd’s energy all night long.
The evening was more than just a dance—it was a chance for students to reconnect with old friends and form new bonds. One standout moment was our red carpet entrance, where cheering "paparazzi" made every student feel like a star. It set the tone for a night of celebration and connection.
We’re so proud of how our students represented themselves and each other—it was an evening they’ll remember for years to come!

Wild Things Presentation!
What an amazing presentation done by Jojo from Conservation Ambassadors’ Wild Things for our lucky students. They were beyond excited to see all these fun and unique animals up close – especially the friendly capybara, the wiggly lizard, and the tiniest little owl with the biggest personality. Jojo shared incredible stories about each animal’s journey and how they came to be ambassadors for wildlife education. Students were all eyes and ears, snapping photos, asking thoughtful questions, and clearly loving every second of the experience. There’s something magical about seeing animals in real life that makes the science click, and this presentation definitely brought the wild to life!
Even better, this visit lined up perfectly with the 9th and 10th grade climate projects currently underway. As students dive into the ways humans impact ecosystems and climate, getting to meet real animals affected by these issues gives them a deeper, more personal understanding. At CCPA, we love making connections between our projects and the real world—it keeps learning meaningful, memorable, and engaging. Enrollment for the 2025–2026 school year is now open—don’t miss your chance to be part of it all! For more information, call us at (530) 285-2003 or email isabella.brenneman@cottonwoodk12.org.

Embrace Every Moment
We’re often racing to the next thing, but what if the most important moment is the one you’re in right now? The Time Is Now invites us to pause and be fully present—whether it’s with your child, a friend, or even just with yourself. When we model presence, we show others what it looks like to be grounded and emotionally available. Presence creates trust and connection. And when we take the time to notice and truly be in the moment, we also Encourage the Heart by honoring the people around us.
Try this: Pick one interaction today—just one—and give it your full attention. No multitasking. Just be there. See what shifts.
