Secular Curriculum and Websites

Wildwood Curriculum

At Wildwood Curriculum they bring you a modern-day secular curriculum based on the original works of Charlotte Mason that can be used by all families. They are busy building the curriculum as they teach it themselves. The team is composed of busy homeschooling parents who are currently working on Form 3.

Charlotte Mason Blogs and Resources

My Little Robins

This blog is written by Cindy Rinna, who is trained in the Charlotte Mason philosophy. She has beautiful resources and curriculums found here. It is mostly about how to use Charlotte Mason for littles aged 0-6 years old, including special needs children. She offers both Christian and secular resources. Monthly resources are offered free with several ideas to use seasonally.

A Humble Place

Rebecca is the author of this blog, based in Minnesota, it is known for its resources to help in teaching the arts in a Charlotte Mason homeschool. Following closely the Ambleside Online curriculum, free artist studies are available for each term. Also available are explanations of how she has used Ambleside Online for her children, grades Kindergarten through Second Grade. She also has a full kindergarten curriculum for purchase here. This is predominantly faith-based CM, but offers secular tools as well, such as the artist studies.

Raising Little Shoots

This resource is one of my favorites for nature studies and can be found here. Exploring Nature with Children is a program for a year-long nature study that includes poetry and lists of living books to read alongside.

Read-Aloud Revival

Sarah MacKenzie is an author and homeschool mom with a great passion for reading. While her site is not explicitly about Charlotte Mason homeschooling, since its main focus is reading, it is a great resource for implementing the vast amounts of reading required using this method. Her book Read Aloud Revival is a great start to bringing a love of reading into the home.

Homeschool Solutions with Pam Barnhill

Pam Barnhill is well-known for Your Morning Basket resource. The style that she introduces through morning basket time assists with teaching multiple ages at once. While not strictly Charlotte Mason, the approach fits well into reading together, narration, dictation and other parts of Charlotte Mason philosophy.

Life, Abundantly

Erin Cox is the author of this blog, and author of The Gentle + Classical Education. She has written programs for preschool and kindergarten ages, as well as an excellent nature resource that fits perfectly with Charlotte Mason’s nature studies. Some parts of the programs can be downloaded for free, but to get the entire program, you need to purchase it. This is another blog that is not considered secular, but has elements that families can use for younger students just learning the Charlotte Mason methodology.

Podcasts

Podcasts can be great for families just learning about Charlotte Mason or wanting to implement new ideas. Listening to Podcasts can be a great way to learn while busy with other tasks in the home, or while driving in the car.

A Delectable Education

This Podcast is run by three seasoned Charlotte Mason homeschoolers. They also offer different resources such as teacher training, schedule cards and Charlotte Mason audio books.

Charlotte Mason Poetry

Has a website of the same name with wonderful resources to be used in your homeschool. This is not secular in nature, but offers wonderful books to consider when understanding more about Charlotte Mason Philosophy and nature studies.

Curriculum

Ambleside Online

This is a faith-based free curriculum that offers detailed schedules for teaching using the Charlotte Mason method. Some of the books they suggest are no longer in print, but many of the books can be found for free online and are often available in your local library.

Simply Charlotte Mason

This is a faith-based curriculum that closely follows the Charlotte Mason. The website also boasts a blog with tips, as well as a YouTube Channel to help explain some of the parts of the method that get the most questions, like narration. There are several resources available that are of a secular nature and can be used to teach young children to read and basic math skills.

Charlotte Mason Institure Alveary

This website is all-encompassing and includes programs for grades 1-12 as well as daily lesson plans, the living library, and term exams. The $199 fee covers the entire family for one full year.

A Modern Charlotte Mason

This website is similar to Ambleside Online, but they suggest using more modern living books and resources. You can also find products to help with homeschooling that are reasonably priced. They also offer free booklists for Forms 1-4.

A Gentle Feast

A Gentle Feast was created by Julie Ross and her desire to offer a rich education to her five children. It has faith-based elements, but offers single products that can be purchased of a secular nature. The full curriculum averages around $200.

Beautiful Feet Books

Beautiful Feet offers history and literature packs with teacher’s guides for grades K-12. This isn’t specifically Charlotte Mason, but offers a wealth of living books for your children’s education. They have a site that shows what can be purchased with charter funds.
